Micky van de Ven found the net twice as Spurs extended their winning streak in away games in the top division and delivered the Toffees their initial loss at their new home.

Everton were unbeaten in their five previous fixtures at their new ground at Bramley-Moore Dock, having left their historic home behind after more than a century at the end of the previous campaign.

But Spurs captain Van de Ven pounced twice from set-pieces in the first half to put their strong form at risk, and they were failed to mount a comeback before the midfielder - assisted by former Toffees attacker the Brazilian - headed home a third to seal the victory.

Jake O'Brien thought he had equalized the scores five minutes after Van de Ven's opener, glancing a powerful header past Guglielmo Vicario from an Everton corner.

Beto, in the meantime, missed a handful of chances, while the Italian goalkeeper made a series of fine saves to guarantee Tottenham went five matches on the road without defeat in the English top flight.

But the VAR stepped in, advising the match official to check the goal on the screen and the referee ruled that the winger and Iliman Ndiaye were in offside positions and had interfered with the Spurs keeper.

This victory elevates the manager's side up to third in the Premier League, five points off local foes and leaders Arsenal.

The Merseyside club remain 14th and sit six points clear of the drop zone.

Tottenham analysis: Van de Ven fulfils duties at both ends of pitch

Following a drab midweek display in the European competition against Monaco, where they mustered a mere attempts on goal, the manager chose Randal Kolo Muani in attack instead of former Toffees player the Brazilian.

The summer signing was failed to influence the game before being substituted for the substitute after 60 minutes on the field, but it turns out he wasn't needed in the final outcome.

Everton's recent stadium had been a fortress, but it seems the novelty may have faded slightly and fans headed to the gates after Sarr's final goal for Spurs.

The end in the team's unbeaten home run won't be a major concern for David Moyes, but their striker situation are.

The forward and Thierno Barry - the Everton's pair of recognised strikers - had scored only a single goal combined before the weekend's match.

And they were failed to contribute to that miserable tally on a wet and gloomy night on in Liverpool.

The striker's performance was epitomized when he opted to overhead kick a clear chance from close range, despite having room and opportunity to reposition for a more conventional shot that would have tested the keeper.

It was not for a lack of chance. Most of the home side's attacks came through Grealish and the forward, who tirelessly whipped threatening crosses into the Spurs penalty area.
