The New Mayor Promises a 'Fresh Chapter' for NYC in Inaugural Speech
During an initial day in the mayor's office, Zohran Mamdani vowed to “reimagine” America's largest city, promising “a new era” and an ambitious commencement to his term.
An Unprecedented Leader

As his administration begins, Mamdani and his wife will move from their Astoria apartment to the stately Gracie Mansion. The previous occupant offered a unusual piece of advice about a reputed resident spirit in the home, which allegedly only haunts those who fail to “do right by the city.”
Mamdani ended his remarks with a simple statement: “The work has only just begun.”
