Tensions with Venezuela Rise Following Alleged Final Offer from President Trump to Maduro.

Sources indicate that ex-President Donald Trump conveyed a unambiguous ultimatum to Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro: leave power – and depart the country – immediately.

As stated in reports, the U.S. leader allegedly conducted a telephone conversation with his Venezuelan opposite number, who is the target of a sustained diplomatic offensive that has included a substantial deployment of warships off Venezuela's northern coast.

"You have the chance to save yourself and your family, but you need to exit the country now," the U.S. president allegedly said, offering assured transit for Maduro, his spouse and his son "only if he consented to step down without delay."

Nonetheless, the Venezuelan president allegedly refused to step down right then and reportedly made a series of counter-demands, such as worldwide amnesty and the right to give up political control while maintaining command of the military.

Latest Escalation in Persistent Two-Nation Strain

This incident represents the most recent escalation of strains between the two countries. On Monday, Trump reportedly held talks with his top security officials to discuss the Venezuela crisis, though specifics of that gathering were not disclosed.

Key Elements from the Reported Conversation

  • Final Offer: Immediate resignation and departure from the country for Maduro and his closest relatives.
  • Reported Rejection: Maduro supposedly turned down the offer for a swift exit.
  • Requests: Reportedly requested international immunity and continued authority over the army.
  • Wider Situation: This occurs amid a broader U.S.-led pressure campaign designed to ousting the Venezuelan administration.

When questioned about the conversation, Trump reportedly remarking, "I can't say it went well or poorly, it was a phone call." Neither the American nor Venezuelan administrations have released further information about the subjects discussed during the highly unusual exchange, which is thought to have happened in late November.
