Since the launch of the fourth campaign, new Dungeon Master Brennan Lee Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with rich lore, a diverse cast of personalities, and a gripping narrative featuring celestial beings, fiends, and dark forces increasing in power within the city.
Note: Spoilers for the latest installment of the new season are included.
The Combat-Oriented Party Introduced
Episode 3 ended with a huge suspense moment and revealed the initial group of characters who will split off from the central cast to begin their own adventure, distinct from the remaining groups.
The combat-focused team features Teor Pridesire (portrayed by Travis Willingham), Thimble (Laura Bailey), the fierce warrior (Whitney Moore), the cleric (Sam), and Kattigan (Robbie).
Why Split the Party?
Given an extensive roster, it was obvious from the start that maintaining everyone at a single group would be impossible.
Hence, the first four episodes of this story serve as an Prelude, connecting the characters’ stories before branching into three separate parties: Fighters, Schemers, and Explorers.
What Defines the Combat Party
Per Brennan Lee Mulligan, the warrior group is for players who prefer a typically action-packed fight-heavy gameplay experience where peaceful solutions are rare.
Upon first impression, figures such as the reluctant priest Wicander might look mismatched, but the actions of the latest installment show why these five characters are perfectly fit for the combat party.
Why They Must Go
First, the party has a clear idea where to proceed after a violent first encounter with the enemy group.
A former ally of the deceased character—whose demise started the story’s plot—used the foes for his selfish purposes, entering Thjazi’s hideout, attacking the rogue, and stealing all the enchanted items to dispose of.
The traitor then settled his obligations and fled to a Halovar stronghouse in the remote area, above the city, with Cyd hot on his heels.
Personal Motivations
Additionally, each character has a personal reason to exit the metropolitan area:
- Thimble, as Thjazi’s partner and best friend, desires retribution.
- The knowledgeable figure is familiar with Timmony and warns that it is a hostile location.
- Tyranny and The healer, having defied his house’s orders to kill Teor and instead rescued him, have no other options.
- But, their reputation as important members in the powerful family could help the party access places they normally couldn’t.
- Additionally, The fighter swore a unbreakable promise to Wicander for his rescue and will now go with him wherever.
Wanted and Hunted
Lastly, all of them are wanted by the rulers that control the city for a multiple motives, making staying in the city too risky:
- Thimble and The character are known criminals.
- The warrior and The cleric defied the powerful family and the army of fiends they are allied with.
- The fighter is wanted dead by the clan.
This results in them few options but to head to the remote area in quest for the antagonist.
Future Episodes
According to the latest episode’s Cooldown, we discover that the warrior group will not appear next week, leaving the remaining eight participants to form the Seekers and Planners groups.
Fans can anticipate learning which characters will be in which group in Campaign 4’s concluding setup installment, available to watch on the upcoming Thursday.
